OPEN until Sep 13th Higher Aunemouth Campsite offers a rustic and tranquil camping experience near Bantham Beach in South Devon. Small and family-run, our aim is to provide a peaceful escape surrounded by rolling fields, salty sea air, and breathtaking views. With basic facilities, wide open spaces, and no frills, it’s camping as it should be – quiet, wild, and refreshingly real. BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND AVAILABILITY ON MAIN CAMPING FIELDS: FRIDAY – 10 PITCHES LEFT, SATURDAY – 13 PITCHES LEFT, SUNDAY 20 – PITCHES LEFT. (Williams field Full)
The main camping area, known as the ‘tree field’ is open from April to mid-September and is characterised by its natural setting with numerous trees. An additional overflow field with views of the moors and partial sea views is available from early May, and a smaller field named ‘Williams Field’ offering sea views, a field kitchen, firebowls and a nearby hot shower and fridge/freezer opens in May until the end of August.
The main camping fields provide 50 basic pitches. Facilities are minimal, aligning with the site’s back-to-nature ethos. There is no electricity, but we have standpipes for water, washing up sinks and an outdoor cold shower. Toilets are eco-friendly composting types, designed to be environmentally sustainable.
We have fire pits with grills for hire, and wood and kindling can be purchased on-site
Whether you’re pitching a tent under the stars or enjoying a morning brew with the sunrise, this is the place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and make lasting memories. Four legged friends are also welcome.
We have lots of families with young children staying on the site, we kindly ask that music is turned off at 9.30pm and no noise please after this time or you may be asked to leave.
Sorry but we do not take groups of under 18’s unless accompanied by at least one parent.
There are 12 composting toilets or ‘long-drop’ loos. Sawdust is used to help the waste matter gradually decompose. As long as no non-biodegradable items go in or chemicals, the loos are completely environmentally friendly. I’m afraid we don’t have an Elsan.
No electricity on the main camping fields.
There are 4 taps (mains drinking water), sinks in each field and an outside cold shower which has a simple surround for privacy.
Help Us Keep the Campsite Green!
We’re passionate about protecting the environment, and we ask for your help in keeping our campsite eco-friendly and sustainable. Recycling bins are available for food waste, plastic, tins, foil, paper, cardboard and glass. Please separate your waste carefully and use the correct bins. There is also a bin for general (non-recyclable) rubbish. Disposing of black bin (general) waste is expensive, so the more we can recycle, the better—for the environment and for keeping camping costs down. Thank you!
BBQs & Firebowls
Please do not throw bbq ashes into the hedge, extinguish with water immediately after use and dispose of them in the ‘ash’ bins dotted around the site or the rubbish area. BBQs and Firebowls are permitted but off the ground. If you are using disposable ones, please grab some bricks which are near the rubbish point and put under your bbq to prevent the grass from burning. There are lots of trees in the field so please, no open fires. Wood and kindling is available on request at £7 a bag. We also have 5 fire-pits/bbqs available for hire at £8 per night or £15 with wood per night.
To walk to the beach avoiding the road: turn right out of the site, walk along the main road for about 100 metres and then turn right at the ‘farms only’ sign. Go down the hill and turn left at the bottom and just keep going straight following the estuary path for about 10/15 mins eventually bringing you the the back of Bantham stores and shop. Turn right at the end of the shop to go to the village, past The Sloop Inn and onto the entrance to the beach.
The ferry between Cockleridge (Bigbury side) and Coronation boat house (Bantham) is running until the end of September 10-12am & 2-4pm every day @ £4.50 per person one way
